Wally's lollies

2nd September 2009 we went to Wally's Lollies in Fielding.

We got a sample of a lolly pop. later on in the trip we got a tin full of Raspberry Drops.

They had a glucose syrup in a pot. It started at 0 degrees Celsius, then they took the pot off when the syrup reached the temperature of 150 degrees Celsius and put it on a heated metal sheet with metal bars on each side to keep the syrup in. Then when they poured it on it was all bubbly

and after about 5 seconds it looked solid and not like the watery substance it was before. Then they had little metal squares and they had to keep lifting it of the sides to stop it going hard. One man painted one huge blob with black food colouring to make it black. The other little blob was plain. The other man had the little blob and he had those hooks that they use in making licorice to make the yellowy glucose syrup turn white. Then they squished the white strip into the black blob. They rolled it around for awhile then they put it in a machine that that twists the strips around each other and shrunk it. Then they feed the strip into a machine that turns them into balls with a strip. They drop into a conveyor belt which takes them to packaging.

Here are our photos.
